On Sunderness

2014—2025

Are they set apart, or are they being apart? The sacred groves may well have been the first places — discovered in the same way one discovers a brook or a mountain pass, as something explicit in its own nature, inarbitrary, suggesting not everywhere is the same. A separateness — and as such, it may have inspired its own debasement, in ownership and trespassing, where only the hostile environments continuously belong to the gods.

On Sunderness is a series on parks, places that served as parks, peripheries and preserves set apart in a way that is inherently unclear.
